Best Donut Shops – Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Sometimes Saturday mornings just call for donuts. Am I right? There have been too many times to count where Jimmy and I have rolled out of bed, left the house in our pajamas, and headed to a donut shop to enjoy a nice sweet weekend treat. Nothing screams weekend more than a freshly baked donut early in the morning. Add a cup of coffee to that, and I am set!
In honor of National Donut Day, here is a list of my 3 favorite donut shops in Coeur d’Alene in order from favorite to least favorite! Enjoy!
#1 Davis Donuts
Davis Donuts, in my opinion, is the best donut shop in town. There really isn’t a debate. The other two don’t even compare. They are a family owned and operated business that has been making tasty treats since 1981. They make delicious donuts, always fresh every morning (They open at 5AM!), with a large variety of different styles and flavors. There are so many choices here that’s it’s hard to even know what to order. Everything looks so good! My favorite donut at Davis Donuts is the Davsont Bavarian Cream donut. It reminds me of the Cronut from my favorite bakery in NYC, Dominique Ansel Bakery, a creation that Dominique Ansel came up with that is half donut half croissant. The Davsont also has that croissant like dough, creating lots of layers when you bite into it. Add filling to that, Bavarian cream, and you’ve got a winner. The Davsont Raspberry donut is also an amazing choice. Besides donuts, you’ll find me buying sourdough bread at Davis that they make from scratch daily with their own sourdough starter. They do a regular sourdough and a jalapeño cheddar sourdough. (They also do a garlic sourdough, but I’d skip it!) I love their sourdough toasted in the mornings with some avocado smeared on top.

#2 Gross Donuts
Weird name. Delicious Donuts. That’s what you get at Gross Donuts. Children love this place because of the funny name. (They also make fun children’s themed donuts with sprinkles, gummy worms, and other kid favorites!) Don’t miss their fritters! They are huge and so soft, with big chunks of real fruit in them. It’s their signature donut and their most popular. Yum! While they make the classic apple fritter, also check out their daily fritter flavors like blueberry and cherry. Another must-try is their blueberry buttermilk donut. It’s delicious and full of blueberry flavor! And, I am partial to maple bars. Such a classic American treat. They make a good one with real crumbled bacon on top for a nice balance of sweet and savory. Gross Donuts is open 24 hours, and they have a drive-thru, making it super easy to get your donut fix anytime of day!

#3 The Donut House
When you’re in Hayden, head to The Donut House! The donuts at The Donut House are very similar to the donuts at Gross Donuts. (The owners of Gross Donuts and The Donut House are related, so it makes sense that they are almost identical) The main difference between these two shops is the location, one being in Coeur d’Alene and one being in Hayden. The Donut House does a great job catering to children with seasonal themed donuts like a groundhog donut for Groundhog’s Day, reindeer and snowmen for the winter holidays, etc. As far as my favorite donuts to order, the recommendations are the same as for Gross Donuts. (fritters, blueberry buttermilk, and maple bars) The two shops are almost identical in ranking, but I’ve had slightly better experiences at Gross Donuts than at The Donut House. They also have a drive-thru, which I always appreciate as a customer often in a hurry!

If You’re Visiting Spokane…
Since we are on the subject of donuts, don’t miss Hello Sugar in Spokane Valley, Spokane, and Liberty Lake! They have the most adorable little mini donuts that are made fresh to order. They do creative toppings that are always changing and then fancy them up with edible glitter. I’d say they are the cutest donuts around. But the best part is how they personalize the box with a first name, making it the perfect gift to take to a friend.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy these donut shops as much as I do. What donut are you enjoying today on National Donut Day? Leave me a comment below. Hungry for more CDA eats? Check out this post about the best ice cream in Coeur d’Alene!
