Do you prefer sweet things or savory? For me, it’s sweets hands down. I love ending a meal on a sweet note, and if it has some chocolate in it, even better. Since I’m sweets obsessed, I wanted to write a post about my favorite dessert places in Coeur d’Alene. If you haven’t checked them out already, what are you waiting for?

Crumbl Cookies

The best place for freshly baked cookies in town is Crumbl Cookies. They started in Logan, Utah 3 years ago and now have spread to 11 states with 75 locations! They have a rotating menu of four different speciality cookies, changing their flavors every Monday. The two consistent cookies that never change are their classic chocolate chip cookie and pink frosted sugar cookie. All of their cookies that I have tried are delicious, but I especially love the chilled key lime sugar cookie and the warm Muddy Buddy cookie. Crumbl also has a drive-thru, and they do delivery! They make it easy to get your cookie fix any time of day.

Woops! Bakeshop

I am so happy to report that Coeur d’Alene now has a bakery that sells French macarons! I fell in love with this little cookie when I lived in London. I would frequent the Ladurée in Covent Gardens as well as the Pierre Hermé. I never knew there could be so many different combinations of macaron flavors. Woops makes delicious macarons, and they have a wide variety. They are perfect for a gift for a foodie friend or to take to a troubled neighbor who needs a little something to brighten their day. They are colorful, happy, and so delicious. Don’t miss the honey lavender flavor as well as the lemon cream.

Birdie’s Pie Shop

Birdie’s makes delicious full-size pies. Fruit pies, cream pies, something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. I love their key lime, chocolate cream, and triple berry. They all are perfection. I also love their savory pies like their chicken pot pie. It’s the perfect comfort food. Everything is handmade from scratch and it’s always fresh. It’s a great tasty choice. Warning, you might get hooked!

Bean & Pie

Bean & Pie is located inside of my favorite coffee shop, Evans Brothers, in downtown Coeur d’Alene. They make the cutest little hand pies that I can’t stay away from every time that I visit. Pie and coffee just go so well together. They make all sorts of different flavors like salted caramel apple, mixed berry, and strawberry rhubarb, but I’d have to say that my favorite is the local huckleberry because it’s unique to the area and so fresh. Besides hand pies, they also sell small personal pies that could be split between 2-3 people.

Donuts

Davis Donuts

Davis Donuts has been around for years! It’s a local favorite. They open bright and early and all the best donuts sell out quick so get there fast. I’m in love with their Bavarian Cream filled Davsont donut with the croissant like layered dough. It’s my favorite. There is so much variety at this donut shop that there is truly something for everyone.

Ice Cream

Panhandle Cone & Coffee

This is my new favorite ice cream shop in town. It is a family owned and operated business from Sandpoint, Idaho. They opened their CDA shop in February 2020 in midtown across the street from Angelo’s Italian Restaurant. They make delicious ice cream that is shipped in from Sandpoint every week. My favorite flavor is the Salted Caramel and Brown Butter Cookie Dough, but I also love the Bourbon Honeycomb. Their theme is “Bad to the Cone,” which I found to be so clever. Go support them! You will love their ice cream!

Abi’s Ice Cream

Abi’s ice cream has been round for a few years now, and I am so glad that it is here. It is a local family owned shop. The shop is named after their daughter, Abi. They make their ice cream in small batches with the best ingredients possible and everything is homemade, including the mix-ins. I love so many of their flavors but Abi’s Road, Huckleberry, Lavender Earl Grey, and Malted Vanilla Toffee Chocolate Chip are at the top of my list. If you're in Coeur d’Alene, you have to try it. If you visit during the holidays, they make fun winter flavors like Bourbon Eggnog and Gingerbread. They also make hot chocolate and espresso if you’re wanting something warm.

Dockside

Dockside and I have so many memories together. From high school prom dinner, to Christmas caroling throughout the restaurant with my acappella group, to cast after parties with my theater friends, to celebrating New Year’s Eve, birthdays, homecomings of long lost family members, and everything in between with family and friends – I’ve dined here more times than I can count. It was always my families go to special spot for a sweet treat. The location is stunning, inside of The Coeur d’Alene Resort, with gorgeous lake views. With a good sunset, it can’t be beat. While visiting with my cousins when I was around 9 or 10, my uncle once bet all of us kids that if we could single handedly finish an entire ice cream sundae that he would give us $5 each. $5 seemed like a lot at that time in my life, so I was up for the challenge. Slowly but surely, I finished my Butterfinger sundae, every single last drop. I proudly got my $5 from my uncle, but also had the worst stomach ache of my life. It definitely wasn’t worth it, but as a young child, I wasn’t going to lose, especially if money was involved. It was a good laugh for everyone else watching I’m sure.

Dockside is known for their “Gooeys,” AKA desserts. Their ice cream sundaes are popular because of their massive size not because they are the best ice cream sundaes you’ve ever tasted. They use mediocre quality ice cream at best and probably just some Hershey’s syrup, but with that said, they are still fun to order because they are ridiculously large, making for a memorable night out. My favorite ice cream sundae at Dockside is the Peanut Butter Cup Sundae. If the giant size is not something you want, they do offer every sundae in a half-size as well. (Tip: They make their white chocolate ice cream from scratch. I like to sub in the white chocolate ice cream for vanilla in my sundae.) If you’re not an ice cream lover, go for the huckleberry cobbler, the Toll House pie, or the creme brûlée. I also love their milkshakes, especially the chocolate malt. Also, skip the food here and go somewhere else for dinner, like somewhere on this list. Just stick with dessert at Dockside.

Anthony’s

If you want a delicious dessert option in a beautiful setting go check out Anthony’s at The Village at Riverstone. They make the best cobblers. Their cobblers are made fresh to order and come out piping hot with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The flavor of the cobbler is always changing with what fruit is in season that month, making for the freshest most flavorful fruit filling possible. I’ve tried their peach cobbler and their cherry cobbler and let me tell you, both were delicious. Like lick the baking dish type of delicious.
